About
About the farmer and farm The Suke Werekata station is located in the Suke kebele, Uraga, in Ethiopia's Guji zone, one of the highest-altitude coffee-growing areas in the world, with some trees growing above 2300 meters above sea level. That altitude means lower yields than other areas, but exceptional quality. The main varieties, JARC 74110 and JARC 74112, are well adapted to local conditions, combining resilience with strong productivity and flavor potential. Farms in Suke rarely exceed 2 hectares. In the 2023-24 season, the station took deliveries from more than 240 farmers, totaling around 400,000 kilograms of cherry. The station is dedicated to experimental coffee, with the team focused on anaerobic processing and continually refining the process through data collection. Processing: anaerobic natural, 72 hours Ripe cherries are hand-picked on farms in the Suke kebele and delivered to the station. The cherries go into a sealed environment for 72 hours (3 days) of anaerobic fermentation. After fermentation, the coffee dries on African drying beds, kept shaded for the final days of drying.
